Minnesota-Duluth bulldogs one their first ever national championship in Division I college hockey against Michigan. Which just so happens to be my favorite college hockey team. How this plays a role in my life is I follow hockey closely, especially college hockey. I love watching college boys play because its more hearfelt and passionate at theur level, they are working harder to try and move on to the next level. Which I can relate to in many ways because coming to south kent was a stepping stone, now theres other stepping stones to move onto the next level which I watched only a week or two ago.

Rowing

Crew is a full body workout that can be strenuous on the body so massage therapy can be very effective.  Most athletes think that adding as many training hours as possible is the best way to get fitter and therefore a better outcome.  This isn't the best way though.  By working out vigorously then giving your body time to recover and receive massage therapy for a day in between workouts.  This is much more effective then beating your body up.  It also results in a more effective season.  This has to do with my life because we work hard from Monday thru Saturday and by Sunday my muscles are tight and stiff annd my dad gives me massages to relieve the tension in preparation for the next week.

As an international students, we must take the plane every year. So if the airlines announced some new rules. Maybe it will influence my plans about going back home or travel plans

In the latest news, some airlines want to make something change

For example, if you are a frequent flier. You just pay less money and you can get first case ticket. That is nice. Because when I go back China, it must be a long travel. It takes a long time. If I get first case ticket, I can feel more comfortable. I don’t feel very bored and tired during the long travel.

On the other hand, some airplane company will produce some little planes with bigger seats. Because of this, we don’t need to pay more money and get a better seat then before. It is very nice.

Can Evil Be Predicted?

            Can evil be predicted? In this paper, it will expose 4 different

studies/experiments showing how evil can be predicted and or explained. First

starting with a voluntary experiment, religion, a study of the brain, and following

orders. Can evil be predicted, in these experiments, yes.

            To begin with, a voluntary experiment with Stanford University students and

a professor. Several students volunteered to be prisoners and several volunteered to

be prison guards. The guards were told to run the prison any style they pleased.

Within a couple days in, they turned on to harsh treatment of the prisoners. They

acted out instances of torcher and humiliation. For example, stripping prisoners

naked, forcing them to do numerous amounts of pushups, spraying them with

freezing cold fire extinguishers. No reasoning behind these acts other than it was

their prison, and they turned on A-hole mode on just because they could. Maybe it

was the freedom that was given to the guards that could’ve predicted it.

            Secondly, religion in this film was regarded to terminate the evil from a

person’s body. As in the film the murderer that was convicted, asked if to be

baptized. It was a controversial act, an outrage to some.

            A study of the brain was conducted to determine what causes evil acts, or

what prevents them. The students and professors conducting this, observed brain

activity by putting people in a cat scan machine while presenting them with texts of

scenarios, and there decisions would be monitored. In some of the cases they put,

would you smother a baby if you were African women with a newborn child. You

and your townspeople are hiding in a safe location with enemy soldiers nearby.

Your baby cries out and you either smother your baby to death to save you and the

others or you let your baby cry out and everyone would be found an most likely

killed including the baby. Can evil be predicted in this situation? Maybe in this case

some would consider both acts evil. So evil could be predicted just by looking at this

situation whatever decision you make, it’s going to be wrong in some ones eyes.

            Following orders is the last exploitation in this essay. In parts of Africa it’s a

lawless land with civil war and rebellion. Young men’s family’s are killed and raped

in front of their eyes, only to be forced to become a soldier in the rebels. To predict

this evil take a look at the leader to see what orders are being given. If a man is

going to follow orders blindly to kill a whole village of innocent people, evil can be

predicted. What makes this happen to the man pulling the trigger? Possibly fear for

his own life for if he doesn’t follow his general’s orders then his life is in danger.

            Overall, the experience shared through the classroom could be described as

slightly disturbed. How can something like that occur? The most infectious thing in

the world isn’t bacteria nor a parasite, but an idea.

Evil

I think in all honesty that it is possible where the factors of:Situation, Religion and Brain Activity can cause people to be evil.
Situation is where people are faced with conditions where they are inclined to make choices - these choices maybe be “evil,” depending on the choices they make and  in some cases either choices taken maybe categorized as evil. An example from the movie we watched was where a woman was faced with a dilemma where she had to either kill her baby to prevent her family from being killed or to make her baby live and allow her family to be found. With this choice though other people may say that it was evil to kill other members of the family other individuals will also say it is not right to kill an innocent person.

Religion is also another major part in evil and the differentiation of “evil” and good. In some religions it is believed that in order to express their religion it calls for violence and they also believe that doing this will take them to heaven. Others also believe that if you do “evil” you can easy be forgiving by being baptized like the serial killer also in the movie that we watched.

Brain Activity is where the brain basically has a conscience of good and evil. This is where the brain either tells us to do the right thing or the evil thing which is always a factor in our daily lives.

People on the other hand are also inclined to do evil where they are giving “evil” orders and are supposed to come through with it. Two examples were the Congo and Stanford  students situation, were people from a higher status where gave instructions to them to follow( Congo soldiers and Stanford student’s in an experiment) which were otherwise both evil.

Evil

            Evil, a word that has always been associated with the soul or entity of a person, now in modern days scientist are questioning if it is connected to the brain, if it is just a chemical reaction made by our body. The video with the purpose of explain this idea shows four examples: an experiment that is done, now to regular people to see which parts of the brain operate in different situations a psychological study in a university, the problematic situation that the war in Congo is provoking and the baptism of a person who mutilated and killed 17 persons.  The idea of evil coming from the brain suggests that humans are set to be evil but that they can be evil depending in the case and situation.

            Every person has different moral structure so their scale of right and wrong is different of the others, also some people would to sacrifice more or less for different things. Depending on the matter and the situation our brain acts differently. The first experiment is trying to analyze all the different answers that people can do and the part of the brain that they used. In the video two volunteers were asked question that were connected to their moral scales and to their conception of what is right and what is wrong. In the one of the examples a man was asked if he will stop and bring a woman, who had just been knifed, to the hospital. The man said yes but the scientist say that even though almost everyone would have stopped and brought that person to a hospital if the situation changed and if that person was in another part of the world and the help that the person had to provide was indirect he would let the person die. If a person could help another in Congo indirectly the person would be more reluctant to help.

The civil war in Congo has taken many lives since it started. Also it has provoked many people leave their homes and everything they own. Many people have moved to refugee camp. The state soldiers had received orders from their commanders to move these people to refugee camps. The soldiers are abusing of their power and killing and violating many civilians. The soldiers who had provably been poor to are now using their power to feel better and as a escape goat for all their sadness. In this case again this situation is making the soldiers evil and making them behave against other whom not a long ago were their equals.

The head of the psychological department of a university designed a experiment to see if humans who had never been evil if there is a situation change the humans can become evil. University volunteer students were used in the experiment as guards and prisoners. The classes were set as a prison. The head of the psychological department created a fake prison to see how the fake guards would when they had power. After 2 days the fake prisoners rebelled. The guards stopped the rebellion and started to degrade and torture the prisoners in order to humiliate them. The power had made the guards evil. The head of the department was the superintendent the fake prison. After some days he realized the he also had become evil and he did not really wanted to stop the experiment. The experiment was stopped when another psychologist made the fake superintendent realize this.

A man that killed 17 people and mutilated them had asked the church for forgiveness- All his sins trouble him and that he is very sorry about all of them. He wants to be forgiven by god to be free of all his errors so he can rest in peace. A reverend of the church is asked to do this sacrament. Many people tried to persuade him of not doing this. He objects that humans have mistakes that in different situations people react differently. But above all of these reasons his opinion is that God forgives all of the persons who are sorry for their sins. Everyone had sin in his life maybe ones more than others but everyone deserves to be forgiven.

Evil is a created in ones mind and depends of many factors: situation, education… With concrete combination of all this factors many people can be evil in a more or less quantity. It is clearly impossible to eradicate evil from the world. Everyone be evil at certain times.  Even though evil can not be completely eradicated if people, mostly when they are children, are treated well and with love the people would act the same way giving this love to other and by that making less the chances of situations that provoke evil.
